To all those forced to be adults today, born to be children forever.
We know that growing up often means letting go of our childhood; the summer of ’12, the lazy afternoons at our grandparents and the buzzing noise of the TV echoing the familiar tunes of our favourite TV shows. Yet, within each of us, a tiny hand longingly grasps our own, pulling us back to the times when we shouldered no responsibility. And I hold that hand tightly. My design philosophy is inspired by the belief that adulthood and childhood are not mutually exclusive but harmoniously intertwined into our identities and aim to preserve the spark we thought we left behind. The function of design should not take precedence over fun, and speak to both the selves we are now and the selves we wish to be. The memories of our past shape who we are now, and should not be overshadowed by the burdens we have to carry.
My work is a testament to the belief that while we may grow up, we should never have to let go of the joys that shaped our youth. As Joe Barbera once said, “If your product has a good story to it, it’s worth repeating,” and that stands true to our childhoods-- these were our stories and they should never be forgotten.
